Welcome

to Wolfgang Aulke’s official site

At the age of twelve Wolfgang Aulke started playing the classical guitar, inspired by the guitarist Andrés Segovia. Only a few years later, he bought an electric guitar and the musical projects expanded towards jazz rock, progressive rock and art rock. Musicians like Miles Davis, Chick Corea and bands like »Genesis« or »Yes« shaped his musical preferences.

During his studies of the classical guitar he discovered the tenor saxophone, fascinated by the music and virtuosity of John Coltrane and Michael Brecker. Its direct connection with his body through breathing and the warm tenor sound has never left of him.

After the autodidactic acquisition of the basic techniques and after studies with Wolfgang Engstfeld in Cologne he also started to play the soprano and baritone saxophones. Since 2016 he has been playing the tubax, too, a contrabass saxophone developed by Benedikt Eppelsheim in Munich.

For more than 40 years, he has been member of numerous musical projects and bands for which he composes and he participates in studio recordings.

The bandwidth of his music ranges from big band jazz and smaller jazz formations over soul and blues to chamber music and a-cappella-compositions.
